What locs really cost

Almost everyone looks at the price of the install and stops there. It is the biggest single cost, but it is far from the only one, and the real question is what your locs will cost you across twelve months.

The install depends on the method and the number of locs. Many fine locs take far more hours than fewer thick ones, and the price follows the hours. That is also why an honest quote always starts with a consultation: nobody can price an install seriously without seeing your hair.

Then comes maintenance, and that is what weighs on the year. A retie comes round every four to eight weeks depending on your growth and your method. Multiply that by how many times you will come in. That number is the one that matters, not the install.

Add products, which stay modest if you choose few and choose well, and the occasional treatment when the scalp or the length needs one.

One thing few salons will tell you: stretching out your reties to save money usually costs more in the end, because tangled roots then take more work and break more easily. Consistency is where the saving is, not the opposite.
