Your locs in the Dakar climate

Most of the advice you read online comes from somewhere else, from dry and cold climates. Here the reality is different, and your locs know it.

Humidity is the main subject. A thick loc can take a very long time to dry, and one that stays damp at the core develops a smell, then in time something more serious. Wash in the morning rather than the evening, dry properly, and never go to sleep with wet locs.

Sea air leaves salt behind and dust gets everywhere. Both dry the hair and settle into the fibre. A clarifying wash now and then clears what ordinary washing leaves behind.

Through the rainy season everything slows down. Drying takes longer, damp swells the locs and makes any set hard to hold. This is the time to space out complicated styling and to protect more at night.

In the dry season it flips: the length drinks whatever you give it. The mist becomes a daily habit rather than an occasional one.

None of this is a problem. It is simply a different rhythm from the one most guides describe.
